Biased Solution of KTH Geoid

The development of KTH method was end up with three different solutions - biased solution, unbiased solution and optimum solution.

The explanation on why it referred to as biased solution was described in LE Sjoberg & A Hunegnaw Journal of Geodesy 74:232-238.

Look at eq(2) pg 233; then eq(5) pg 234; (5) is the equation for biased solution; by comparing them both will explain why (5) became biased.

New Springer Geodesy Publication

What in store in geodesy springer ...

Regarding the IAG Symposia Series published by Springer, the IAG & Springer (Schuh, Hermann Drewes and Franz Kuglitsch) had a meeting with the Springer publishing editor responsible for the IAG Series in November where they decided the following two improvements:

1. The Series will, firstly, be published immediately as eBook, and, secondly,

2. change its name to “IAG Topical Collection” (in order to avoid the words “Symposium” and “Proceedings” in the sub-title that imply a lower image in ranking).
The procedure is a peer review as before, but it will be published online a few days after the acceptance by the IAG Editor-in-Chief Jeff Freymueller.

Sesi Pembentangan Progress Pengajian

Pagi ini diadakan sesi pembentangan progres pengajian MSc melalui penyelidikan. Sesi bermula sekitar jam 9.20.  Berlaku sedikit kelewatan kerana ambil masa untuk menyedia pasang sistem LCD. Seramai 11 pelajar sepatutnya membuat pembentangan. Namun cuma yang membuat pembentangan. Seorang dari mereka dimaklum sudah tidak lagi menerus pengajian kerana tarik diri. Manakala seorang lagi berada di ITB melakukan penyelidikan di sana.

The proceedings was Shuanggen Jin (of Shanghai Astronomical Observatory) & Riccardo Barzaghi (Politecnico di Milano). The series editor was Chris Rizos (also as IAG President). The symposium was organized by the International Gravity Field Service (IGFS), Commission 2 of the International Association of Geodesy (IAG), and Shanghai Astronomical Observatory (SHAO), Chinese Academy of Sciences.

The symposium attracted 130 participants from 25 countries and the proceedings contain 24 peer-reviewed papers presented under six sessions;
  1. Gravimetry and Gravity Networks (Convener - Sylvain Bonvalot & Dan Roman)
  2. Global geopotential models and vertical datum unification (M Sideris & Jiancheng Li)
  3. Local geoid/gravity modelling (Urs Marti & R Barzaghi)
  4. Satellite gravimetry (Roland Pail & Shuanggen Jin)
  5. Mass movements in the Earth system (Rene Forsberg & Shuanggen Jin)
  6. Solid Earth investigations (Carla Braitenberg & Rene Forsberg)

IAG 144 (published in 2017)

Among the papers on geoid modelling were;

- A New Gravimetric Geoid Model for the Area of Sudan Using the Least Squares Collocation and a GOCE-Based GGM by Walyeldeen Godah and Jan Krynski.
