Heiskanen "On the activity of the isostatic institute of the IAG and of the worldwide gravity project of Columbus, Ohio, in Physical Geodesy".
Brovar "On the solutions of Molodensky's BVP" - 1964
G Veis started publishing his work on satellite geodesy.
GAK-1 Gyro; laser and satellites for geodetic introduced 1966.
LSA computation using computers began 1967.
I Mueller started 1968
Bjehammar "Theory of new geoid" June 1969.

Bull Geod 1955 - Precise Levelling

BG issue of June 1955 was devoted to topics on precise levelling. Eleven papers there were written in English including "Statistical analysis of discrepancies in levelling with applications to the first-order levelling of the Nile data" by Wassef of Egypt.

By 1957 Marussi, Hirvonen and Baarda started contributing. Hirvonen wrote "Computation of triangulations on the ellipsoid by the aid of closed formulas". Baarda with "Some remarks on the computation and adjustment of large systems of geodetic triangulation".

Molodenski has two papers in 1958 Dec issue "New methods of studying the figure of the Earth" and "Deducing Stokes's formula with a relative error of the order of the square of the flattening". Erratums of these two papers published in March 1960 issue.

Geodesist Legend - G Bomford & AG Bomford

Two famous names in geodesy ... Guy Bomford & Anthony Gerald (AG) Bomford. They are father and son. AG Bomford migrated to Australia in 1961. There he joined Division of National Mapping, Canberra. He died in Canberra 2003.

Bulletin Geodesique - resumed July 1946

The publication of BG interrupted 1942 to 1946 due to war. The last issue was Dec 1924 and its resumed with new series - Vol 1 Issue 1, July 1946. Papers in French still dominated then.

Heiskanen wrote a paper "On the geoid study of the International Isostatic Institute" published in BG Vol 7 January 1948 (get it here).

A number of papers on gravity measurements and reduction worldwide available in BG Vol 12 June 1949.
Also published there was the 100th birth anniversary of Roland Eotvos (source).

Read the report of Geoid Meeting 1949 by Bomford (here).

Next to continue with Vol 15 (1950) on-wards.

Bulletin Geodesique 1937 - Gravity and Geoid

It is not easy to find geodesy paper written in English in the early publication of Bulletin Geodesique (BG 1924 onwards). The papers were all in French (BG January 1924 - Dec 1942). In Bulletin Geodesique (Issue of July-Sep 1937) two papers in English were published - one on international development of geodesy and the other on the figure of the Earth.

The former among others touched on the issue of the requirement of having dense gravity data if Stokes formula is to utilized. The latter was eighteen pages long paper written by N E Norlund - Director of Geodetic Institute, Denmark .

Another Book on Gauss

Gauss is famous in mathematics as well as in geodesy. Found another book on Carl Friedrich Gauss. The book was published in 1977 to commemorate the 200th birth anniversary of Gauss. This is the third book on Gauss in addition to the two books previously written (here).

Prof Deakin - myGeodesy

Prof Deakin (RMIT) menyediakan satu website khusus yang beliau namakan myGeodesy. Berbagai nota kuliah dan bahan rujukan berguna meliputi berbagai tajuk dalam geodesi dan least squares ada di sana. Antaranya termasuklah nota tulisan tangan tentang the Earth gravity field dan juga the normal gravity field.

Selain subjek geodesi dan LS turut dimuatkan ialah bahan mengenai map projection, transformation dan survey computation.

Chapter on Modern Geodesy (2009)

A special textbook on geodesy was published by Springer in 2009 entitled "Global Geodetic Observing System". The book consists of many contribution chapters by re-known geodesists and was edited by Plag.

Chapter 2 is a good read on "the goals, achievements, and tools of modern geodesy" with seventy-five pages content.

Deformation Examples (cont'd)

Following are more case examples of deformation - hydro dams failure;

Rempen (1924); Gleneau (1932); Stava (1985) - all in Europe; San Fransisco (1928) and Teton (1976).

Cases of Stava, San Fransisco & Teton lead to the establishment of standards for deformation survey since 1920s.

Another case of deformation which was highlighted most is Turtle Mountain Alberta. Seventy people perished and the deformation was caused by geological structure and excessive coal mining.
