Al-Amir Restaurant

One of the difficulties when travelling is to find halal meals. I was in Budapest recently and spotted a restaurant which serve halal food.

Al-Amir Restaurant

(Al-Amir now is more established - read here)

As can be read it is Al Amir Restaurant serving Arab/Syrian dishes. It is located somewhere along Rakocci ut (Rakocci Street) .. I am not really sure whether this is correct! But the exact address could be Kiraly u (or Kiraly Street). 17, Budapest, 1075. [ Now it is located a Petofi Sandor u. 18, 1052 - 2018]

I should provide some information on the menu and price but don't have time to check them out as I was in hurry. Judging from it's location and speciality the meal there may cost around 10,000 Forint per set. As a comparison Fish Fillet and Pepsi at McD or Burger King in Budapest is around 900 Forint (about Euro 3.60).

Additional note:

By now (2018) besides Al-Amir, there are many halal restaurants available in Budapest (read tripadvisor and halaltrip).

Budapest Central Market

One of major attraction site for visitors in Budapest is the Central Market. This is the place where one can buy souvenir items like T-shirt, key chains, handy crafts and etc.

... In Budapest such a place is the Central Market. There you can find all those what tourist look for. Not only that there are many other things you can find... food, meat, sundry goods like onions, eggs.

It is a central market anyway !

Muegyetem's (BUTE) Memento

Visiting university/college is much more meaningful if you purchase something from its store as souvenir.
What better way than having Mugs with their name on it.

Muegyetem's Mug (HUF280)

This Mug is quite cheap .. 280 Forints (about 1 Euro something). Muegyetem is what they called BUTE in Hungarian ... I guess so!

Price - HUF400

And this one for some reason sells at 400 Forints.

Budapest Technical University (BUTE)

I have the opportunity to visit Budapest University of Technical and Economic (BUTE). It is a very old institution founded in the late of eighteen century (i.e., 1872).

BUTE main building

The above photo showing one of the buildings in the campus - the main building. It is an old classical building but the architecture is been kept in good condition.

The following photo shown the interior look of the building - one of the corridors. Simple and yet trendy!

The corridor

Look at how clean it is, neat and very well maintained. The notice boards display are very well organized too.

Griff Junior Hotel, Budapest

To find an accommodation when attending academic event is not really a problem. Normally the organizer will come out with a list of recommended place of accommodation. In IAG GS I have choose to stay at a budget hotel listed by the organizer. The hotel - Griff Junior - is quite near to Buda site of Budapest. Public transport is very easy to access. Tram no 6 and 49 will take you to BUTE and reach there in fifteen minutes.

Griff Junior Hotel

The hotel entrance ... that's how it's look

At that time the room rate was Euro21 for a single room. The room is basic with a TV, mini-fridge and attached bathroom.

The room

Note: there were many complaints in trip advisor saying the receptionist were rude, rooms in bad condition, breakfast is no good etc (read here). So be reminded about all these. But some are saying with cheap room rate don't expect too much.

BUTE's Geodesy Dept

While in BUTE, I have visited the Geodesy/Surveying Dept. It is one the most established Geodesy school in Eastern Europe.

The photo above is a plaque with the name of Geodesy/Surveying staff written on it. The Dept is currently headed by Prof Jozsef Adam. The Dept has produced many distinguished geodesist. Among the most notable were Profs Lorand Eotvos (1848-1919), Akos Detrekoi (1939-2012, age 73) and Peter Biro.
