He came for discussion sessions with postgraduate students at 3D Measurement Lab. I took the opportunity to have short chit chat with him and also giving him the flyer on Geoid School to be distributed at USQ.

PSM's technical paper submission

We are now in the last week of lecture for this semester. As for PSM tasks students were struggling to get their technical paper done. They were supposed to submit the paper last Wednesday. But the extension were given because many of them get involved in Hydrography Seminar held last week at UTM KL.

This year the format of PSM technical paper was changed. For the first time the technical paper need to be written following Jurnal Teknologi format. So they have to submit 'journal' paper within 8-13 pages. As 4 pm today about 70% of the students have submitted their work.

Gravimeter at Jupem

Terrestrial gravity survey for geodetic purpose in Malaysia has been actively done by Jupem. They have doing the job for over thirty years may be more. The gravity survey were carried out in three categories of order - first, second and third order. Jupem has two set of gravimeters both are LaCoste & Romberg instruments. One is the G series and the other Graviton. Unfortunately both gravimeters are no longer in working condition. Both need repair and Jupem has no budget at the moment.

A re-look at Jupem's Gravity Data

After cutting short the presentation on "Gravity and Figure of the Earth" the gravity workshop at Jupem was continued with a session to familiarization the gravity terrestrial data available at Jupem. Emphasis was given on the metadata aspects such as the coordinate systems used, type of height info given and etc.

Special Lecture "Gravity and Figure of the Earth"

During the Gravity Workshop at Jupem a special lecture entitled "Gravity & Figure of the Earth" was arranged. The lecture was slotted as the opening session of the workshop and was expected to take about 45 minutes. A total of about 30 slides was prepared for the lecture. Somehow the lecture was cut short after four or five slides only. The audience seem not ready for such a heavy content of talk.
