The story of how Copernicus replaced the prevailing geocentric view of the universe with his heliocentric model is a familiar one. Less familiar are Tycho Brahe’s contributions to astronomy and his influence on Johannes Kepler, who revolutionized 17th-century thinking about planetary movements. Science writer Ferguson’s intellectual and cultural biography of these two seminal scientists provides a delightful, detailed look into the ways that each man developed his ideas about the universe. Brahe, a Danish nobleman, developed a variety of instruments for observing the heavens. In his observatory off the coast of Denmark, he built a magnificent armillary-an instrument that allowed him to construct his theory that Venus and Mercury orbit the Sun while the Sun and the outer planets orbit the unmoving Earth. In 1600, Brahe took on a brilliant young student named Kepler, whom Brahe asked to carry on his own work after his death. Though indebted to Brahe for his instruments and his detailed charts of the stars, ultimately Kepler departed from Brahe’s views, confirming instead Copernicus’s theory that all the planets orbit the Sun. More famously, he discovered that the planets had elliptical rather than circular orbit.

MSc UUM Meeting (2011)

A meeting to discuss the proposal to establish a new MSc program - tought course MSc Underground Utility Mapping was held at UTM KL on July 20, 2011. The meeting was attended by representatives from LJT, Pejuta, Jupem, and private practicing surveyors.

A Kleusberg (1984) Diagnosis and therapy of geodetic satellite networks of the type Doppler

P Georgiadou (1984) To define a body-fixed reference system for a deformable earth and its analytical form of movement under the influence of external forces

B Heck (1984) To determine recent vertical movements of the earth's crust and temporal changes in the gravitational field from repeated gravity measurements and leveling (habilitation).

Ernst Heinrich Knickmeyer (1984) An approximate solution of the general linear geodetic boundary value problem through series expansion according to spherical functions.

Penubuhan Jupem WP Labuan 1984

 

Jabatan Ukur dan Pemetaan Wilayah Persekutuan Labuan ditubuhkan pada 16 April 1984. Pulau Labuan sebelum ini terletak di bawah seliaan Jabatan Tanah dan Ukur Sabah (JTU). Setelah Labuan diisytiharkan sebagai sebahagian dari Wilayah Persekutuan, JUPEM WP Labuan diwujudkan dan pejabatnya yang pertama terletak di Bangunan Pejabat Daerah berhampiran dengan Dataran Labuan.

Johor Safari World Tutup 1984

 

JSW terletak 10km dari pekan Simpang Renggam mula dibuka pada 1982. Ia merupakan taman safari pertama dan terbesar Malaysia. Diusahakan oleh Syarikat Chipperfield's Circus di atas tanah milik kerajaan negeri Johor. JSW juga membina roller-coaster pertama di negara kita. Cuma mampu bertahan dua tahun sahaja dan tutup bisnes mereka pada 1984. Kerugian besarnya adalah kerana kos penjagaan haiwan yang amat tinggi.

cabaran besar t5 adalah mencari tajuk tesis. tidak ramai yang punya kebolehan untuk memikir sendiri tajuk kajian. maka sebagai alternatif kenalah bertanya dengan para pengajar kalau-kalau mereka boleh memantu. saya diberi idea oleh awhi tentang tajuk underground utility mapping. idea tsb beliau perolehi dari pembacaan artikel oleh christina tang terbit dalam jurnal the surveyor rism. tang pelajar nelp dari kuching sarawak.
