The City of Monash is named after a man regarded as one of Australia's greatest heroes. General Sir John Monash was a civil engineer and volunteer soldier who rose to the highest rank in the Australian Army by the end of World War 1.

Monash Uni is named after engineer, military leader and public administrator Sir John Monash, Monash University was established by an Act of Parliament in 1958. When Monash Uni first students began their studies at foundation campus in Clayton in 1961, Monash became the first university established in the state of Victoria in over 100 years.

Why Named Wollongong?

Ada sebuah uni nama Wollongong Uni. Kenapa nama Wollongong?

The name Wollongong is said to originate from the Aboriginal word woolyungah, meaning five islands. In 1815 some of the Illawarra's Traditional Custodians led the first European settlers and their cattle down the escarpment. This marked a new chapter in the story of our area.

Wollongong is the third largest city in New South Wales (after Sydney and Newcastle) and today it stretches, as Greater Wollongong, from Stanwell Park in the north in a continuous coastal sprawl, all the way to Shellharbour in the south.

Why La Trobe Uni?

The University was named after Charles Joseph La Trobe, the first Superintendent of the Port Phillip District from 1839 to 1850 and first Lieutenant-Governor of the new colony of Victoria from 1851 to 1854.

What is the meaning of La Trobe?

French surname from the Midi-Pyrénées region. Derived from Occitan la troba ('one finds it'). May have indicated a profession such as a troubadour (Occitan trobador).
