CTU Prague & Jupem Cooperation

In a recent journal published by Czech Technical University, Prague (CTU) - Geoinformatic FCE CTU (link) there is a paper on calibration of digital level. This paper reported about the cooperation of CTU and Jupem Malaysia i.e., Geodesy Section of Jupem on automatic calibration of digital levels for Jupem. The project started in 2009 and the calibration system was set-up at Jupem which took nine days for the installation to be completed.

Bengkel Jabatan Geoinformasi (2015)

Jabatan Geoinformasi mengadakan program "Bengkel Perancangan Strategik' selama tiga hari di Melaka. Bengkel pada 21-23 Disember itu membincang antara lain keperluan staf baru menjelang persaraan sebilangan besar pensyarah geomatik dalam tempoh lima tahun ke hadapan.

Test 2 Sghu4863

Test 2 for Sghu4863 (Industrial Survey) was held today starts at 12 noon. It covers topic on underground survey and introduction to geodetic monitoring. The test was supposedly held last week but has to be postponed. Students asked for postponement because they were busy with PSM Proposal submission task. Three students absent because they were away due to family matters.

PSM I Proposal Presentation

The presentation sessions of PSM proposal were held today. A total of six sessions were held in the morning followed by five more in the afternoon. I was assigned to session 1C with six students presented - Norsahira, Fuad Kassim, Joanes Jawan, Siti Nur Hidayah, Muhammad Aiman Awi and Arif Idris.

Norsahira was suggested to asked help from JAIJ to arrange getting proper data from selected surau and mosques, Fuad was asked to work with either one instead of using both Lidar and UAV images; Nur Hidayah was suggested to include some practical work of determining Qibla direction involving two cases (i.e., grave and prayer Qibla) at problematic sites mentioned in her proposal; Aiman was asked to get data as early as possible from Jupem; Arif is suggested to do monitoring work at a school in Batu Pahat with help from UTHM.

Height Datum Unification - PhD in Geodesy Estonia (2013)

Recently I was made available to access a PhD work completed at one university in Estonia  in 2013. The thesis entitled "Precise hydrodynamic levelling using pressure gauges with application to improvement of the Estonian national levelling network" submitted by Dr Aive Liibusk to Estonian University Life Sciences, Tartu. The examining committee was consists of Prof Markku Poutanen from Finnish Geodetic Institute and the work was join supervised by Prof Artu Ellmann (of Tallinn University of Technology) and Assoc Prof Harli Jurgenson (of Estonian University of Life Sciences).

The research was part of efforts contributed in modernizing and unification of height datum in Estonia. The main contribution was the implementation of a special technique of hydrodynamic heighting connecting levelling from mainland to distant island of tens of kilometer away using pressure gauges.

Recent PhD Calgary - Height Datum Unification

A recent PhD in Physical Geodesy from University of Calgary Geomatics Engineering with dissertation entitled "Height datum unification with the Boundary Value Problem Approach". The PhD is the work of Babak Amjadiparvar supervised by Professor Sideris. Babak is of Iranian origin pursued his study at Calgary after completing MSc at Dept of Surveying and Geomatics Engineering, University of Tehran. The PhD was completed in June 2015 and downloadable here.

Geoid School Meeting (No 2)

A second meeting of Geoid School Committee was held this morning. The meeting discussed among others matter on participant fees and strategies to get participants.  It was agreed that the fees set at Rm3000 for local participants and USD1000 for foreign. Five committee members including Dr Dudy and five research graduate students attended the meeting.

The meeting lasted for about 90 minutes.

4Sghu PSM Kuliah Pensyarah Jemputan

Satu sesi syarahan khas telah disampaikan kepada sekumpulan pelajar 4Sghu yang sedang menyiapkan proposal PSM. Kuliah telah disampaikan oleh En Affendi Hashim dari Pusat Pengajian Pra-siswazah /Akademi Bahasa UTM. Beliau dijemput untuk memberi syarahan berhubung dengan persediaan dan teknik persembahan (presentation) proposal. Kelas diadakan dua sesi dengan setiap sesi disertai oleh 30 pelajar.
